Winter Wonderland Exhibition Now Online, Curved CQ Piecing and Goodies

Hello Everyone,  I took some time off from blogging to rest a bit and spend some time just relaxing. I have been losing myself in my sewing room and stitching away along with reading my other passion. 

One project I just finished is My Submission called "Bavaria Winter Wonderland" found at the International  Winter Wonderland Exhibition. There is 20 art pieces interperting this theme. There will be 3 prizes awarded.  So go and have a look and enjoy. I have been doing the flip and sew method of crazy quilting for sometime.  I have always admired projects I see that have used curved piecing but thought it would be to difficult and time comsuming to attempt.  Yesterday I decided the time has come to give CQ Curved Piecing a try.  Above is my first attempt which I found a bit fustrating but still I truly enjoyed the process. The block is 8 inches by 8 inches.  The theme is a secret to be revealed at a later date.  So I would love to receive my reader's opinions on how they think my first attempt turn out and if they have any suggestions on how to improve my beginning skills. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

The above photo is of two pillow cases I made for my granddaughter Chloe.  Her room is painted that lovely pastel green.  I made one pillow case with the plaid and the other pink and mixed the two fabric at the top. They are so nice and soft. I also made a baby doll blanket from the same fleece fabric.

I went into the big city last week and while there I stop to visit my favorite thread shop called "Peacock Alley". I love metallic threads and I found some I did not have in my stash. The lower right 4 threads are called Kreinik Fine Braid Overdyed Metallic. I just love those colors.  The botton roll of three spools of glittery metallic threads are called Micro Ice Chenille. I have never seen them before so they were a must have too. Of course all of these lovely flosses were bought with my Crazy Quilt Of My Dream Project in mind.

I discovered a new blog called "Maureen's Vintage Acquisitions" and I could not resist buying the above to dye for Ombre Picot Edge Ribbons.  I have seen them used on other projects but never seen them for sale before.  Well as you can see I have many lovely luscious colors to work with now.  I have often heard my crazy quilting friends talk about "Sassa Lynne Fine Perle Cotton Flosses" as being wonderful to stitch with and I was pleasantly surprised to find them at Maureen's site. I decided on the very lovely hand dyed colors of pinks and lavenders botton left. I also found some other very lovely ribbons called "Savoir Faire by The Thread Gatherer" and decided to give them a try too. I love adding silkies to my projects and I could not resist buying these beautiful antique silkies in a lovely Thistle and Rose.  Oh, how I wish I knew how to create silkies.  If anyone knows of a tutorial using windows 7 or Element 8 software I would appreciate knowing about them.  Thanks. 

I think this long cold winter has been getting to me so hence I have been spending way to much time looking on the internet and finding lovely things to buy. I found some more wonderful Pearl Metallic Cotton #5 in silver and gold and I can hardly wait to use them.  I also found a very unique item called "Silked Wrapped Pearl Purl" in some yummie colors of Pale Pink, Pearl Pink, Green, and Rose Mauve. They are manufacture in England.  I have no idea how to use them so if any of my wonderful blogging friends have used them on their projects I would love to hear about them. I would also love to see some photos too.  Thanks.

I hope you all who are going through the dreadful Winter season is surving, I am sad to say I am barely hanging on and everyday I am thankful we are one day closer to Spring.

Anne Of Green Gable Quilts and Blustery Weather

Hello Everyone,   My fingers have been vey busy stitching for the last couple of months and unfortunately I am behind in visiting with my blogging friends.  The project that I am working on is due February 1st'  I am very hopefully it will be done in time.

During the meantime I am also planning our wonderful  upcoming trip.  Karen does not have a blog. My new friend Gail from NB Canada has been very helpful in many ways and we now have our confirmed reservation at "Green Gable Cottage.  Gail has a lovely blog called "Quilt,Knit,Run, Sew"  please have a look. From my last posting about PEI
 "Linda from Stitching Lines"  and Karen, "Sew Kaaren-ly Create" have also been helpful.  You can see Karen's very lovely prize winning "Anne Of Green Gable Quilt" created a couple of years ago on her blog.  On Karen's blog you will also find a photo of the "Patchwork Quilt Tsushin" Japanese Magazine with the wonderful PEI Lighthouse on the front cover along with the most gorgeous "Anne Quilt"  This issue is filled with everything PEI and their quilts. The next 6 photos below are some of the Anne's Quilts. I think they are all truly beautiful.  I ordered the Japanese Magazine from
 "Center Diamond Quilt Shop" in Cannon Beach Oregon  see it below.  I also purchased this PEI DVD from Amazon and it was so lovely to watch.

Below is a photo of another Flower Dorset Button I created recently.  I think I will use it as an embellishment to the in progress "Crazy Quilt Of My Dreams".

The photo below is of my first needle weaving attempt.  It will be included in the project I am working on for the February 1st Exhibition.

For the last couple of years I have been mainly creating crazy quilt projects. Judith Baker Montano new book called "Fibreart Montage" is truly lovely.  Last year I was introduced to Tilda's Books.  "Sew Sunny Homestyle" came out last August and it also has some very lovely patterns in it to create.

Below is a couple of very lovely "Rose" buttons I received from a Dear Friend in Australia.  They will also go on my Hearts and Roses Crazy Quilt I am working on.

My Husband created the two bird feeders below. Our winter birds are enjoying the protection and the food after our blustery very cold and abundant snow fall last week.

The stitching project I have been working on has the theme of "Winter Wonderland" and you can see all I need to do is look outside and I have all kinds of inspiration.

Last evening I could not put down the Patchwork Quilt Tsushin Magazine. Oh, how I wish I could read Japanese. It has so many "Beautiful Anne Quilts" that were so awesome to look at..  The Japanese Magazine also took many photos of Lovely Businesses on PEI whose owners had made all kinds of truly beautiful quilts. They were a delight to look at. I will have to make it a point of discovering and exploring all the "Quilt Shops on PEI".
