FOLLOW A TREE FINISHED SCOTTISH HIGHLAND BY THE SEA and A WET FELTED VASE

Hello Everyone,

As you all know I am passionate about my garden and my stitching.. So when I read about "Follow A Tree" for one year I could not resist joining in with Lucy and many others.

This Great Idea was created by

I am sure you all will enjoy seeing
"My Kousa Dogwood Tree" now buried in snow during its "Rest and Quiet Renewal of Winter" to popping forth with wee buds in the next few weeks.

Please visit the "Loose and Leafy" site and see so many other lovely blogs and trees.

Our Winter has been especially harsh this year.  Bitterly cold and snowy.

Our front yard has never seen this much snow.

Along our Lake Michigan shoreline our Lake Michigan is now 93% frozen.  A very rare case only happening 2 times before back in the 60ish..

What does this mean for us living in Western Michigan.  They tell us our Spring will be "Late" "Cold" and "Wet"... Not what we want to hear after enduring our Arctic Winter...

So I have been spending lots of time in My Studio. I have now finished the back of
"The Scottish Highland By The Sea".

I used Peltex which I attached to the main art piece and then laid the white wool with words over it and with no steam in my iron I press it all together.

I used Printed Treasure fabric to add the following words.

Listen to the Surge of the Sea.
The Thunder of the Ocean.
Breaking on the Sand of the Beach.
The Ceaseless Surge
Listen to the Surge Of the Sea..

Now all I need to do is wait patiently for Spring when all the frozen Ice and Snow has left our beautiful sandy beaches..
Then I will search for some "Drift Wood" so I can attach it to "The Scottish Highland By The Sea" and hang it up in our Master Bathroom..

What do you all think???

You just have to love all these most Beautiful Pastel Hand Dyed and Hand Carded fibers.  They just make me smile when I look at them... Yes they do!! LOL

I bought them when I attended a class a few weeks ago at Twisted Warp & Skeins at Merrill Michigan.

The above wet felted vase is not completed as of yet.  It still needs some more fulling and then lots of embroidery and beads added to it.

I am not sure what kind of a Vessel it will turn out to be. Should I Leave it like the photo above or turned it upside down like the photo below??

What do you all think??

I would like to Thank You all for visiting my Blog and leaving all your lovely comments for me to read..

I wish you all a lovely week.

Hugs Judy

I leave you with some more enticing lovely bits of wool roving in all the colors or Spring...

HAPPY SPRING!!!

Beautiful felting projects! Thank you for showing us. It's so hard to believe how frozen the Great Lake are this year. Goodness! Our snow is finally melting although our lake is still frozen solid too. It actually reached 54 F yesterday. Yippee! Have a lovely, warm day.
Blessings,
Betsy

Absolutely beautiful felted scene. We like to go into Chicago on St. Pats Day to join the celebration. I told my grandson we will probably have to pass. I can't imagine it would be livable by then to be outside all day near the lake.

all that snow and not a flake fell here in Yorkshire this year, yesterday we had a glorious sunny day. the vase is looking good, wondering though how it will stand up if on the pointed end. I t will look wonderful with stitching and beads. The saying is good you have put on the back of your Scottish piece,

Hello Judy - I love the way you have finished off your Scottish Highland picture - perfect. The vessel is amazing - how big is it? I think it looks much better in the second picture. Yummy colours. I hesitate to say that spring has arrived here in France but the weather is very spring like - we have had clear blue skies for about 5 days now. Such a relief after all the rain over the winter. Incredible picture of Lake Michigan - I find it hard to believe that a whole huge lake can freeze over. xx

What an unusual Tree Following post. I look forward to seeing spring pictures before too long, though your 'Arctic winter' one is magnificent ... and your Scottish Highland felting is exquisite.

I am loving your gorgeous works Judy, and although I think the vase would look good as in the second pic, I do wonder if it might have trouble with keeping its balance that way up: in any case it's looking rather beautiful - love the colours too!
I do hope you have some happy sunshiny weather soon m'dear, you must be so tired of the cold and snow! Hugs, Joy xo

Oh my, the photo snow is daunting, but the photo of frozen Lake Michigan is disturbing. I sure hope we don't have another winter like this one anytime soon.
The back of your Scottish Highland looks great now, and I'm sure the vase will be gorgeous, too. I think I like it upright best.
Have a great week, Judy!

So much snow, I shall look forward to watching your dogwood tree as the buds start to emerge.
Your finished Scottish Highland by the sea is wonderful.

Oh my goodness that is a lot of snow. I remember when I was attending school at Western we had 26 inches of snow in two days. We could not make it to class for three days, but we were able to make it everywhere else! It was loads of fun if you were a student, but not so much fun if you weren't.
Hugs to you and love your roving.

Such a lovely post with wonderful pictures too. Thank you for the link to Loose and Leafy. I'll definitely be checking it out. Love all the wool fibres and seeing what you are working on! Your Scottish Highland piece looks wonderful and I'll look forward to seeing the progression of your felted vase. In a couple of weeks I'll be joining a few other ladies for a felting day. Will be loads of fun :)

One (hopefully!) resilient tree! The shoreline picture of Lake Michigan is incredible. What a landscape! And the scene an extraordinary context for the dogwood's year.

Hello Judy,

The tree project is a great idea. Now one question with all that snow and ice in the water has it made a difference to the fish? I can imagine that life in the snow would be hard at times. Hope the Spring brings much better weather for you.Love that wool you have purchased, good luck with your felting projects.

Happy creating.
