3RD ANNUAL FALL HARVEST HOOKIN AND WOOL GATHERING FUN FUN FUN

HELLO EVERYONE,

I was able to attend this super wonderful gathering of ladies "Up North" as I call it but the actual town is called Charlevoix, Mi..

It is the Pumpkin Time Season  and I have made some more "Wee Pumpkins" and Maple Leaves...
What do you all think of them??

While traveling we got to see some Awesome Gigantic Pumpkins along the way.. Pretty big, hey??

I am proud to say I have been "Stash-Busting too..

DeEtta from "Fiddlehead Finery" planned and hosted this great "Up North" event..

Many ladies came as far as from Sault Ste. Marie, Mi. and other locations in the UP. Also ladies from Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, Canada came too. We also came from as far south as Ann Arbor...... I think there was about 3 dozens of us in all.

DeEtta's Rug Hooking Art. Love those Sheep and Owls.

On the Left is Maureen Mousley who taught us about the importance of "Color".. Maureen come from the Guild at the Sault.

My friend and Host of this event DeEtta in the Green Vest showing every ones lovely Hooked Rugs

DeEtta also hand-dyes wonderful pieces of wool.  The Sand Bale/Star Fish pillow DeEtta made for a class down in the Florida this coming Winter.

Roxanne is the Owner of "Woolderness" in Hessel Michigan..  She hand-dyes all kinds of fibers and also hand spins them.. She also does Needle Felting classes.

Here you can see I bought some more of her beautiful hand dyed fibers..

I can never say I have never won anything anymore.. See those lovely pile of hand dyed wools..... Yup I won them..  Huge Very Big Smile...
They were donated by Nancy Blair of
"Tomorrow's Heirlooms" in Allendale, Mi... Thanks you Nancy I love them...

Michele Mueller of "Wild Hare Rug Studio" from Elk Rapids was one of the vendors demonstrating "Needle Punch Rug Hooking..... I have Never seen this kind of rug hooking before..... To say the least I was very impressed with this technique...In fact I loved it!!!

Huge very big smile...

I had the opportunity to chat with 3 lovely ladies...The lady on the left is  Betty Reece holding her most beautiful piece of art called "Tree of Life"".. This technique is called Rug Hooking Sculpturing... Below is 2 closeups photos of this lovely work.

The other two ladies on the right is Becky and Christie..  I think their rug hooking pieces are wonderful too..

Rug Hooking Sculpturing..Isn't the Owl and Squirrel beautiful...

These two lovely hooked rugs were made by Becky.

The hooked rug is an Heirloom Rug from Christie's grandmother.. Lovely isn't it???

I am not sure who made the Summer Cabin but I really liked it allot.

Two wonderful sheep hooked rugs.. I really like these two a lot too..

As you all know I could "Never" leave such a wonderful event with out bringing home a Treasure...

I was very fascinated with the Punch Needle Rug Hooking.. So I bought a Oxford Punch Needle in their smallest size so I could use regular worsted wool with it..

All that most beautiful Harrisville New England Highland hand-dyed yarn I bought at Dorr Mills Store in New Hampshire. I can hardly wait to start Needle Punching..

Has anyone else done this kind of rug hooking??

When I have NO energy to do anything else I get lost in the most wonderful books..

I have discovered a new to me Mystery Series called "Hamish MacBeth" by M.C. Beaton..  So far I have read the 3 newest books and truly like them a lot.

While I was lost in the books beautiful description of Scotland and trying to also play detective.. I discovered that there was a DVD series to go along with these wonderful books..

I immediately bought this series of too and OH how I love the beautiful landscapes of Scotland... I highly recommend these books and movies.

Oh, how I would love to go to Scotland some day..

The beautiful bright and sparkling Autumn Colors in Michigan is found everywhere now. In Autumn every leaf is a flower to me.....

I also found a great bargain at our local nursery I could not resist.. It is a Weeping Norway Spruce.. I think this spruce is very artistic looking in my garden...what do you all think??

I also "Won" some very lovely scented Handmade with Love Soaps from Kathy of "KathyintheozarksSoaps"..  They are all beautiful birds.. Thanks you Kathy for sending them along to me.. Much appreciated..

Hey Judy
What fun you must have had, and the rugs are all so gorgeous. I have never done rug hooking before, but I know someone that does. Beautiful.

Oh --such talented women. I'm sure you enjoyed every minute of it.... Actually, as talented as you are, you could be teaching classes like that yourself...

Love rug-hooking... SO much talent is needed to do that!!!

True about every leaf in autumn being a flower....

Hugs,
Betsy

Judy! Your gathering looked like such fun! My mom and her mom both did some rug hooking and braided rugs as well, but I have only tried using latch hooking, but did not finish the project. I think your pumpkins turned out very cleverly. The books you mentioned sound like a series I would really enjoy, too. Thanks for posting! [The star and heart you sent me are currently hanging from my fireplace mantel and are a lovely reminder of you. :]

such a variety of work you have shared today. Pumpkins, wish they were more readily available here in the UK but they just seem to grow them for the kids to carve into and are only around in the shops for a couple of weeks, love pumpkin soup. The weeping Norwegian spruce is new to me, very elegant

Oh Judy, I don't know where to begin with my comments: what an amazing post, what wonderful experiences you've had on your trip, and I can't get over the more than beautiful projects that you've shown us. A huge thank you, and a 'huge very big smile'!!!
Hamish MacBeth has run on UK telly for years and years, and we have re-runs here in Australia - I'm so pleased you've found the books (which I haven't read as yet) and the DVD's. Even if you only watch them for the scenery you will be totally immersed, but the stories are very good and often fun too! Enjoy them! With your love of beautiful countryside you would be sure to fall in love with Scotland - such beauty! You can tell where my roots are!
I'll speak with you soon Judy - I'm expecting your lovely parcel any day - just got the 'lost' one from UK yesterday after 6 weeks of travelling goodness knows where!
Loving blessings to you, Joy xo

What a great post, full of so many beautiful things and most of all, last but not least your lovely table runner. I love hooked rugs and all those delicious wools used in creating them. I hooked a Santa once...oh that sounds bad! It was a small mat and I turned it into a stand up Santa, when the Christmas decorations come out I will try to remember to photo him.
The punched rugs are gorgeous and that sculptured "Tree of Life".....WOW! Absolutely a work of art.
You won some great things.....those soaps look interesting is the bird felted on to the soap?
The pumpkins you crocheted are cuties!
xo,
Deb

Hi Judy! Great pictures, and I bet you had a wonderful time at the wool gathering. Love the sheepy art pieces and the summer cottage, but I'm a little but biased about your pomegranate table runner. It's fabulous!
Hope you're having a wonderful fall. We are getting rain today and the temps will dip to the 40s tonight for the first time. Brr. :)
Have a great day!

Oh my goodness Judy! It looks like you had a most amazing time with all of the ladies and all of that wooly goodness. That sculptured wool picture is amazing! I've done latch-hooking in the past, but it really wasn't my "thing" as you could say. However, I do appreciate the masterpieces that others turn out. What a fun event to be a part of.
Blessings,
Betsy

Sweet hugs to you from sunny Florida!

Oh my goodness you have been having a wonderful time of it. I love those rugs, I saw this technique for the first time when I went to Rhinebeck a few years ago for the sheep and wool festival. It looks like so much fun, I have yet to try it, but now you have made me curious about it again.

Kathy is so wonderful, glad you won her beautiful soaps.
Hugs,
Meredith

Wonderful pics, Judy! Nice wins, too, lucky you. Enjoy them. I haven't tried the punch needle hooking, but I've seen it and it looks like a lot of fun. I have hooked rugs before, and I've done some of the wool sculpture, too. I enjoy it, but have put it aside for my embroidery. Maybe I'll pick it up again this winter.
Lovely table runner!

Sounds like a fun event. I've heard from my sis that the fall colors in MI, the UP especially, are really nice this year. Your photo is good evidence of that. Sound like an interesting series of books; I love mysteries, too.

I love, love, love that summer cabin rug. Reminds me of the summer cabins in Norway...and of course I love your Norway Spruce. ;-)

Lovely, lovely work and sounds like a wonderful event Amazing what some people can create. I just love all the different techniques. I think I bought a small punch needle set at Hobby Lobby before but something was missing and I could never do it. don't remember what now, and don't even know where the kit is. I have an old rug hook project that I started and never a finished (a Basset Hound for a friend). And of course I have the Afghani rug project not completed either. Oh well! Love your leaves and pumpkins. And wow, oh wow-- how do pumpkins grow so big? Hope all is well. Best wishes, Tammy
